Passing the practical test is a major milestone, but it is only the beginning of your life as a private pilot. This unit covers what you can and cannot do with your new certificate, how to stay legal and proficient, and how to continue improving as a pilot.
To carry passengers during the day you must have made at least 3 takeoffs and 3 landings within the preceding 90 days in an aircraft of the same category, class, and type (if type rating is required).
To carry passengers at night you must have made at least 3 takeoffs and 3 landings to a full stop at night (1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise) within the preceding 90 days in an aircraft of the same category, class, and type.
Every 24 calendar months you must complete a flight review (1 hour of ground + 1 hour of flight training) with an authorized instructor and receive an endorsement.
Example Timeline
Last passenger day landings: January 15 → You may carry day passengers until April 15.
Last night full-stop landings: March 1 → You may carry night passengers until June 1.
Last flight review: July 10, 2025 → Next flight review is due by July 31, 2027.
